The Perfect Social Media Strategy For Business Owners + Free Checklist



As a business owner myself I understand that showing up everyday on social media is tough for so many reasons. Here are some of the biggest struggles I’ve heard—and have faced myself:

  1. I don’t have time!
  2. I don’t have the energy.
  3. I don’t even know where to start.
  4. I don't know what to post.
  5. Just thinking about it stresses me out. So I avoid it.
  6. I need to be working, not sitting on facebook all day.
  7. Social media is a creativity crusher. 
  8. Did I mention I don't have time!?


For starters, I break it down into monthly and weekly tasks. I spend an hour at the end of each month (or the first day of the month if I’m slacking) to put a game plan together. Then I spend two to three hours every Monday morning prepping my social media for the week. 

Hold up! Wait a minute! Let me put my two sense in it. What about the specifics!? The who, what, where, when, and how of scheduling social media? Don't worry, I have you covered there too.


Post as if you're talking to your ideal client. Know what their pain or struggle is.  Know why they need your product or service. Know their demographics like the back of your hand Speak to them in their language. For example, if your ideal client is 45-55 years old, don't talk to them like they are teenagers. 


People are on social media to be social! They want to learn about you they want to know what is going on behind the scenes of your business.They also want to be heard not just talked to. Make sure that you're allowing that two way conversation.

If you're not sure which social media platforms you should be spending your time and energy on, I would suggest three things:

  1. Don't try to be everywhere all at once. Master  two platforms before moving to another one. (For example: I always tell clients to start off with Facebook then depending on their demographics move to Pinterest or Instagram. ) 
  2. Find out where your dream clients or readers hang out and be there.

Everyone will tell you different "best times" to post, because everyone's audience is unique. The only way to figure out the best times to post for you is to look at your own analytics. The stats don't lie.

I use the tools the free analytic tools that come with Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram.  To kick it up a notch I started using and paying the premium price.

The action plan

HOW Should I Schedule Time for Social Media?

The more you practice posting consistently on social media the easier it becomes. The trick here is finding your routine.  I keep on track designating certain days for certain tasks. 

  1. Start by blocking off an hour at the end of every month to review your analytics and plan out your next month's schedule. (Psst... use the 6 categories I talked about.)
  2. Then block off two to three hours at the beginning of the week to schedule posts for the week as well as plan, photograph, edit, and caption your Instagram posts. Time saving tip * I have built templates on that I can simply switch out words and graphics saving me hours of headaches. 
  3. Lastly, block off an hour a week to respond back to comments and messages. Remember you're on social media to make those client connections.

    That’s roughly three hours per week or two (eight hour) days per month dedicated to growing your brand through social media.

This is time you're spending actively marketing, attracting your dream clients, and growing a thriving community. You know all of that time you spend just scrolling? (Guilty. I know, we all do it.) Start using that time to work on your own social media strategy!
